Product overview
GENE.01 is the first humanoid platform from Generative Bionics, an Italian company founded in 2024 from research at the Italian Institute of Technology. The company unveiled the design concept during AMD's CES keynote on 5 January 2026 and presented a functional, sensorized robot six months later. It remains a prototype: no public order channel, price or customer deployment has been announced.
The robot's main disclosed hardware feature is a full-body distributed tactile skin that senses touch, proximity, force and temperature. Generative Bionics says AMD CPUs, GPUs and FPGA-based embedded platforms handle onboard computing and near-sensor processing. Its proprietary Physical AI architecture is described as physics-native, jointly treating the body, mechanics and motion intelligence.
GENE.01 is a base platform rather than a fixed product. The company says it can alter the AI, exterior and end effectors for particular jobs, and it is adapting the first industrial configuration with Fincantieri for welding in shipyards. A public robot model and digital twin are available through GitHub, PyPI, conda-forge and the ROS build farm. The company has not published height, weight, DoF, payload, battery capacity, runtime or price.
โOur goal is to amplify humans with robots that can sense, feel and learn from the physical world โ and adapt to the specific industrial work each customer needs.โ
Capabilities
Distributed skin across the body detects touch, proximity, force and temperature for contact-aware interaction. [6][7]
The company adapts the platform's AI, exterior and end effectors for each use case; its first industrial configuration is for Fincantieri shipyards. [7]
The GENE.01 URDF model is published on GitHub under CC BY-NC 4.0 and can be installed with pip or conda. [4]
The company says it built the platform in about six months. The claim comes from the company and has not been independently verified. [5][7]
Generative Bionics is developing an EU-protected actuation stack with Synapticon, a German actuation specialist, starting with GENE.01. The actuator type is not published. [7]
