Poppy open-source robotics platform and kits ↗Product overview
Poppy Humanoid is an open-source, 3D-printed humanoid robot developed by the Flowers team at Inria in Bordeaux, France. The project describes it as a research and education platform, says development began in 2012, and notes that it is now hosted by the Poppy Station non-profit. Its published mechanical files and software let users reproduce or modify the robot.
The official standard specification for Poppy Humanoid v1.0.2 is 83 cm tall and 3.5 kg, with 25 Robotis Dynamixel actuators, a large-field-of-view HD camera and an optional 9-DoF IMU. The current repository supports a Raspberry Pi 3 or 4, while the archived v1.0.2 page lists an Odroid XU4. Contemporary sources give heights from 83 to 85 cm because the design is modifiable and different revisions have circulated.
The hardware is licensed CC BY-SA 4.0 and the software GPL v3. Users may source the bill of materials themselves, or buy a kit through Génération Robots, which the project identifies as its official retailer. In October 2026 the retailer listed kits both with and without the 3D-printed parts, with delivery in four to six weeks. This supports commercial status for the kit even though Poppy is primarily a build-it-yourself research platform.

Structural parts are 3D printed, and STL files are published with the project releases so researchers can print and modify them. [1]
Robohub reports that researchers printed modified thighs to study how leg shape affects biped walking. [2]
The official standard specification and current repository list 25 Robotis Dynamixel actuators; a 2014 press article counted 22 motors on an earlier build. [1][3][4]
