Product overview
NEXTAGE is a dual-arm, upper-body humanoid made by Kawada Robotics of Tokyo for factory automation. Kawada describes it as a collaborative system combining two arms, vision and a controller, designed to work beside people after an appropriate risk assessment. The company first announced NEXTAGE at the 2009 International Robot Exhibition.
The current NXA series was released in 2018 with higher payload and speed than the preceding NX01C. NXA documentation and distributor material describe a 169 cm system with 15 controlled axes: six in each arm, two in the neck and one at the waist. The maximum payload is 3 kg per arm, with a 2.5 kg rated payload, and the robot body is listed at 36 kg. Kawada's public page identifies a three-dimensional head camera, hand cameras and configurable end-effector attachments; the exact gripper depends on the application.
Kawada also offers NEXTAGE OPEN for research and the compact NEXTAGE Fillie line introduced in 2022, including a ROS-compatible Fillie OPEN version. The public product pages do not publish a list price. NEXTAGE remains a current commercial product, with purchases routed through Kawada and its distributors.
โKawada Robotics has been engaged for many years in the development of humanoid robots that work alongside people.โ
