What it measures
Safety requirements for industrial mobile robots with actively controlled stability and their systems. It is a safety standard, not a performance benchmark.
ISO/CD 25785-1: Robotics — Safety requirements for dynamically stable industrial mobile robots (legged, wheeled, or other forms of locomotion) — Part 1: Robots
ISO 25785-1 is a planned ISO safety standard for industrial mobile robots whose stability depends on active control, including legged, wheeled and other balancing robots. It is at the Committee Draft (CD) stage under ISO/TC 299. The comment and voting period closed on 8 July 2026, and no publication date is shown in the project record.
Safety requirements for industrial mobile robots with actively controlled stability and their systems. It is a safety standard, not a performance benchmark.
It specifies safety requirements for robots that need active control to stay balanced and could become unstable without power. The new work item proposal says no ISO safety standard exists for this class: ISO 3691-4 excludes these robots, ISO 10218-1 and -2 do not cover mobility risks, and ISO 13482 does not address industrial environments.
The scope text we opened covers any number of legs or wheels and does not name humanoids. Such robots are already in use and their use is expected to grow, which the proposal cites as the reason for a dedicated safety standard.
