IHMC is a nonprofit research institute in Florida that develops technologies to extend human capabilities. It built the Nadia research humanoid, which was first shown as plastic concepts in 2019 and was partly hydraulic and tethered. IHMC introduced Alex on 20 November 2025 as Nadia's successor.
