About AIST HRP-4C

HRP-4C is a cybernetic human that AIST's Humanoid Research Group announced in March 2009. It stands 158 cm tall and weighs 43 kg including batteries. Its joint positions and dimensions were based on average measurements of young Japanese women, and its head was designed for facial expressions. AIST later used the name Miim for the robot.

The developer paper specifies 42 degrees of freedom: 6 in each leg, 6 in each arm, 2 in each hand, 3 in the waist, 3 in the neck and 8 in the face. Each five-finger hand uses one actuator for the thumb and one linked actuator for the other four fingers. The paper reports about 20 minutes of walking operation and separate onboard computers for body control and speech recognition.

AIST developed HRP-4C for entertainment uses such as exhibitions and fashion shows and as a human simulator for evaluating devices. No continuing sales or production program was found, so this page lists it as discontinued.

โ€œExpected to be used in the entertainment industry and as a human simulator for evaluation of devices.โ€
