Product overview
HOAP, short for Humanoid for Open Architecture Platform, was Fujitsu's series of small research humanoids. Fujitsu Automation made the robots. The first model, HOAP-1, went on sale in 2001 and was described as 48 cm tall and 6 kg. It was aimed at university engineering departments and robotics research, and Fujitsu disclosed its internal hardware and software interfaces so users could write their own programs.
HOAP-2 followed in 2003. HOAP-3, the last model found in the reviewed sources, entered order sales on 5 July 2005. Contemporary launch coverage and later research papers agree on a height of 60 cm and weight of 8.8 kg; one secondary article rounded the weight down to 8 kg. Academic sources give 28 degrees of freedom.
HOAP-3 runs RT-Linux on a 1.1 GHz Pentium M. It added cameras, a microphone, distance and grip-force sensors, acceleration sensing, voice and image recognition, and wired or wireless PC control. Research papers also document joint encoders, a gyroscope and four force sensors in each foot. The series is discontinued, and no current model, price or order channel was found.
