Product overview
The igus Humanoid Open Platform (HOP) is a child-sized, 3D-printed humanoid developed as an open research platform. Development began in 2013, and the team released hardware design files in October 2015. Its electrical and mechanical designs, ROS software and CAD files remain publicly available.
The team's technical material gives HOP a height of 92 cm, a weight of 6.6 kg and 20 actuated degrees of freedom: six per leg, three per arm and two in the head. An earlier paper rounded the height to about 90 cm. Robotis Dynamixel MX-64 and MX-106 servos drive the joints under position control; the platform has no articulated hands.
A 14.8 V, 3.8 Ah battery provides a reported 15–30 minutes of operation, corresponding to about 0.056 kWh of nominal energy. The onboard computer is an Intel Core i7-5500U, and the published sensor list includes a 720p camera and an IMU.
The platform received the first International HARTING Open Source Prize at RoboCup 2016. No current sales channel or production run was found, so it remains classified as a research prototype. Iggy Rob, igus's 2025 industrial humanoid, is a separate product.
Capabilities
