Product overview
Mia-1 is a student-built humanoid prototype from Britannia University's Computer Science and Engineering department in Cumilla, Bangladesh. Students Ashrafur Rahman Minhaj and Mahmuda Arefin built it in about two and a half months and the university unveiled it on 17 September 2019. Press coverage describes the robot as about four feet (122 cm) tall.
The creator's documentation identifies 13 degrees of freedom and says the robot stands on two feet, making it a biped even though no walking ability is claimed. An Arduino Mega controls the servo motors while an external computer runs the main Python 3 program. A USB camera supports face recognition and motion detection, and a seven-inch chest touchscreen provides a graphical interface. The robot can speak, retrieve information from the internet and display related images.
The code, circuit information and motor layout were published under the GPL-3.0 license. Press coverage gives a build cost of about Tk 40,000, which is not a retail price. The creators discussed a future Mia-2, but Mia-1 itself remained a noncommercial prototype; no payload, speed, runtime or battery-energy figures were published.
