About RoboSUST Ribo
Ribo is an upper-torso social humanoid built by RoboSUST, the robotics organization at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) in Sylhet, Bangladesh. RoboSUST's project page says it made its public debut on 11 December 2015 at a science-fiction festival in Dhaka and identifies the Bangladesh Science Fiction Society as the project's funder.
The official project page lists 24 degrees of freedom: eight in the face, fourteen across the arms and two in the torso. It also lists motion sensors, RGB and depth cameras, a touch sensor in the hand and a microphone array for sound localization. An Intel Core 2 Duo computer runs software written in Python, Java, C++ and C# on Ubuntu and Windows. The robot can make eye contact, show facial expressions, respond to its name, dance and hold basic conversations in Bengali.
Secondary sources give a height of about 129.5 cm and a weight of 12 kg. Ribo was demonstrated at several public events through 2019, but there is no evidence that it was offered for sale or deployed as a product. It is therefore classified as a historical prototype.
