Product overview
Geminoid DK is a teleoperated android modelled on Henrik Scharfe, an associate professor at Aalborg University in Denmark. Kokoro built it in Tokyo with Hiroshi Ishiguro's laboratory. IEEE Spectrum reported the robot at ATR in Nara in March 2011, during setup and testing before it moved to Denmark.
A motion-capture system tracks an operator's facial expressions and head movements, and the android reproduces them as a remote presence. Aalborg University's project record says the research examined human-robot interaction, including how people engage with an android representing another person. The official project ran from June 2010 through December 2014 and is marked Finished.
Robotsguide lists a sitting height of 130 cm, a weight of 40 kg, 12 degrees of freedom and pneumatic actuation. It also describes external cameras and microphones feeding a custom control system. These technical details are secondary and are marked as reported. The historical project is no longer active and the robot was not a retail product, so it is recorded as discontinued with no purchase route.
