Master Maneuvering System
Wearable controls map the operator's hand, arm and foot movements to the robot. A head-mounted display shows the robot's point of view, and a master foot lets the operator walk in place to move it. [1]

Product overview
The Toyota T-HR3 is a teleoperated humanoid that Toyota unveiled on 21 November 2017 as its third-generation humanoid robot. Toyota's technical table lists it at 1540 mm tall and 75 kg, with 32 axes of motion and ten fingers in total. An operator controls the robot through a Master Maneuvering System of wearable controls that map hand, arm and foot movements, with a head-mounted display showing the robot's view.
Each joint uses a Torque Servo Module that combines a motor, a reduction gear and a torque sensor. Forces measured on the robot are returned to the operator as feedback, and a self-interference prevention feature keeps the operator's and robot's motions from disrupting each other. Toyota developed the modules with Tamagawa Seiki and NIDEC COPAL ELECTRONICS.
Toyota presented T-HR3 as a research platform for safe physical interaction and remote operation, and its release gave no sales or commercialization timeline. In November 2018 Toyota and NTT DOCOMO reported controlling the robot over 5G from about 10 km away. Toyota demonstrated an updated Master Maneuvering System, finger-level force feedback and more natural walking in 2019, but did not announce a commercial product.
โRemote, safe, smooth operation of robot enabled through new, advanced Torque Servo Module and Master Maneuvering System.โ
Capabilities
Wearable controls map the operator's hand, arm and foot movements to the robot. A head-mounted display shows the robot's point of view, and a master foot lets the operator walk in place to move it. [1]
Each joint module combines a motor, reduction gear and torque sensor. Measured forces are sent back to the operator as force feedback. [1]
Toyota's technical table lists 32 axes of motion, a height of 1540 mm and a weight of 75 kg for the robot. The 170 kg figure belongs to the master system. [1]
Toyota and NTT DOCOMO operated T-HR3 over 5G from about 10 km away in 2018. A 2019 update added finger-level force feedback and more natural walking controls. [4][5]
