Product overview
UBTech's Alpha 2 is a small home humanoid launched through an Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign on 11 November 2015. The manufacturer manual filed with the FCC lists a height of 438 mm, a weight of 2.4 kg and 20 degrees of freedom. It runs Android 4.4.2 on an Exynos 5260 processor with 2 GB of RAM and includes an 8 MP autofocus camera, dual digital microphones and sonar. Its fixed hands have no articulated fingers.
UBTech positioned Alpha 2 as a family robot for calendar reminders, home monitoring, voice interaction and entertainment. IEEE Spectrum quoted an FAQ stating about one hour of typical use and a two-hour wall charge. An FCC test report identifies an 11.1 V, 2150 mAh battery, equivalent to about 0.0239 kWh. The early-bird crowdfunding price was US$500, reported as $200 below the expected retail price.
The company planned shipments for February 2016, and Alpha 2 later became a CES 2017 Innovation Awards honoree. No current sales listing was found. The status remains discontinued, but the missing physical and hardware specifications in the previous entry were documentation gaps rather than undisclosed values.
