Product overview
HUBO (KHR-3) is a bipedal humanoid developed at KAIST and publicly released in January 2005. The developers' technical paper gives a height of 125 cm, a mass of 55 kg and 41 degrees of freedom. The platform used electric motors and reduction gears, and each hand had five independently actuated fingers. Its reported walking speed was 1.25 km/h.
KAIST later used the platform for Albert HUBO, a version with an animatronic Albert Einstein head made with Hanson Robotics. That variant is taller and heavier and should not be used as the source for the base KHR-3's joint count: published Albert HUBO specifications give 66 degrees of freedom when its expressive head is included.
HUBO is now a historical platform. It led to HUBO2 and subsequent Plus and DRC variants, but there is no current KHR-3 sales or development program.
Capabilities
KAIST released KHR-3 HUBO in January 2005. Its developers report a height of 125 cm and a mass of 55 kg. [1][3]
The Albert HUBO variant put an animatronic Einstein-style head, made with Hanson Robotics, on the KHR-3 frame. [1][2]
HUBO 2 (KHR-4, 2008) was about 20 percent lighter than its predecessors and has its own entry. [1]
