Product overview
Surena Mini is a small humanoid developed by the Center for Advanced Systems and Technologies (CAST) at the University of Tehran. A 2017 paper by the development team describes a fully 3D-printed research and education platform that is 53 cm tall, weighs 3.3 kg and has 23 degrees of freedom. An IEEE Spectrum demonstration report from July 2017 rounded the robot to 50 cm and 3.4 kg and described about 20 small servomotors in its arms, legs and neck.
Its onboard computer uses an Intel Core processor, and it carries cameras, infrared sensors and an inertial measurement unit. The paper reports experimental tests on fabricated robots, while the Spectrum article shows that the robot could walk and dance.
The project lead told IEEE Spectrum that Surena Mini would be available for IRR 260 million, about US$8,000 at the time. That was a planned price, not evidence of completed sales. No order page, shipments or later commercial status were verified, so the robot remains listed as a prototype.
