Product overview
HRP-3 is a biped humanoid developed under a New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) program. Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Kawada Industries and AIST worked on it: Kawada led the hardware, AIST's Humanoid Research Group wrote the software, and Kawasaki built the remote-control technology. Kawasaki presented the HRP-3P prototype on 8 September 2005 and announced the HRP-3 Promet Mk-II on 21 June 2007.
The Promet Mk-II stands 160 cm and weighs 68 kg including batteries, with 42 degrees of freedom. Kawasaki says its joints and electronics are dust-proof and water-resistant, that it can walk on slippery surfaces, and that a new actuator extends continuous stepping endurance from 60 to 120 minutes. Kawasaki also developed hybrid autonomous and remote control, so the robot can work autonomously or be driven remotely. Kawasaki designed it for harsh conditions such as outdoor construction sites.
Kawada's product page calls the Mk-II the final result machine of the NEDO project and describes it as a research platform, but it gives no price or availability. The 2005 HRP-3P had 36 degrees of freedom and weighed 65 kg. This page uses the Mk-II figures as the base specification.
