Product overview
HRP-2 Promet is a biped humanoid built by the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) and Kawada Industries under the Humanoid Robotics Project. AIST's September 2002 release covered the HRP-2P prototype; a later AIST release states that the final HRP-2 had been announced on 9 December 2002. The final developer specification gives a height of 1,539 mm, a weight of 58 kg including batteries and 30 degrees of freedom.
The robot has 6 degrees of freedom in each arm, 1 in each hand, 2 in the waist and 6 in each leg. Its cantilevered hip structure permits cross-legged steps through narrow passages, and compact electronics avoid the backpack used on HRP-1. The developer paper reports a maximum walking speed of 2.5 km/h.
Kawada describes HRP-2 as a research platform and says it was registered in 2017 in Japan's collection of important science and technology materials. The current Kawada product lineup no longer offers HRP-2, so it is listed as discontinued.
