Product overview
The Honda P3 is a bipedal humanoid prototype from Honda Motor Co., Ltd., completed in September 1997. Honda describes it as a completely independent bipedal humanoid walking robot, and it was smaller and lighter than the P2 that came before it.
Honda's official history page lists the P3 at 1,600 mm and 130 kg. Wikipedia's P-series table, which cites Honda's archived specifications, gives 28 degrees of freedom, a walking speed of 2 km/h, a working load of 2 kg per hand and 25 minutes of continuous operation. Another secondary wiki lists 30 degrees of freedom, so the joint count is not fully settled. Wikipedia also notes that the P3 was controlled from a workstation, unlike the portable controller later used by ASIMO.
The P3 is a historical prototype and is no longer developed. Honda's ASIMO, announced in 2000, followed the P-series and was made smaller and lighter. Wikimedia Commons holds photographs of the P3 at the Honda Collection Hall and the Honda Fan Fun Lab in Motegi, Japan.
