Product overview
Rashmi Robot is a lip-syncing upper-body humanoid built in Ranchi, India, by software engineer Ranjit Srivastava. Hindustan Times reported the project in August 2018 and described it as an Indian counterpart to Hanson Robotics' Sophia. At that stage, Rashmi could move its eyes, lips, eyebrows and neck, make facial expressions and use cameras in its eyes to recognize people; the developer was still working on hands and legs.
Later reporting described Rashmi speaking English, Hindi, Marathi and Bhojpuri. In December 2018 it appeared as a presenter on Red FM, where it answered listener questions in an 'Ask Rashmi' segment. A 2019 photograph on Wikimedia Commons shows the later upper-body build with arms.
Rashmi remained an individually developed demonstration robot rather than a product. Press coverage in January 2019 said ISRO researchers had discussed possible use on an uncrewed mission, but no decision or deployment was reported. No official product page, price or credible activity after 2019 was found, so the robot remains classified as a prototype rather than commercial hardware.
