Product overview
The original Torobo was Tokyo Robotics' first full-size wheeled humanoid product. A company-hosted engineering article says sales began in December 2017. Tokyo Robotics' archived product page specifies a 1660 mm height, an approximate 160 kg weight and 24 degrees of freedom: seven in each arm, three in the waist, three in the neck and four in the mobile base.
The arms used torque sensing and impedance control. Each arm was rated for 8 kg in the least favorable posture, while the maker also cited a brief 20 kg lift with the elbow bent at a right angle. The built-in battery supported up to approximately three hours of operation. The head could carry wide-angle stereo, fisheye and depth cameras, while the software interface was based on ROS.
Tokyo Robotics ended the original Torobo business in 2019 while continuing support for existing users, according to a contemporaneous local business report. The company later introduced a substantially lighter new Torobo generation in 2024. This entry therefore covers only the 2017 original and is marked discontinued.
